A TIME OF TRANSITIONS
1999-2000 – When my parents decided to sell their house which
they had built in town after leaving the farm, and move into an
apartment in a retirement community, I began a search for a
caregiver who would be with them during the day. Upon helping
them get moved in and settled, I returned to my condo in Chicago
for close to one year. It was not long until my sister needed to
staff caregivers 24 hours around the clock. This, we knew, would not
be sustainable.
